For more than 30 years, Inclusive Directions has delivered inclusion support to the South Australian children’s services sector and the broader community.
Over time, and with the support of numerous passionate disability and developmental educators and researchers, the organisation has built a highly person-centred service that is driven by a vision to support and empower families.
Establishing the Foundation
In 1986 Commonwealth Government funding was made available to support access to, and participation in, child care by children who had previously experienced barriers to access.
Over time, a number of organisations in the sector evolved, merged and evolved again to improve services for children with special needs, culminating in the incorporation of Inclusion SA in 2001.
From 2001, Inclusion SA, Diversity Directions and EarlyLinks examined ways the agencies might collaborate to increase the impact of their work. In early 2003 they conducted research which confirmed the South Australian child care sector’s preference for a single organisation to deliver inclusion services.
In January 2005 the three Boards committed to a merger that saw the establishment of Inclusive Directions on July 1 that year.
A New Era in Inclusion Support
In 2015, Inclusive Directions Flinders Therapy House opened to give children living with autism, and their families, access to one of South Australia’s few evidence-based early intervention programs.
The House was the location for delivery of the Flinders Early Intervention Program, which is the culmination of more than 12 years’ research and has assisted hundreds of South Australian children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
By early 2017, demand for our services outgrew our Flinders Therapy House location. In 2018, Inclusive Directions opened a purpose built space in Melrose Park. With 15 therapy rooms, 400 sqm of air conditioned play space and gross motor rooms, classrooms, full client kitchen, art and music therapy suites, diagnostic suites and a family coffee lounge. It is this legacy, that will see Inclusive Directions providing services to those families that need it most, for years to come.
Services are provided from Inclusive Directions Melrose Park, Mt Gambier and Salisbury.
We provide our services where you need us most. At home, at kindy, at school and in our clinics.
